(Updated 12:09pm 17th July 2017)

After a man's body is found in Woodham - we are being asked avoid the area on our journey to and from school and work today.

It was discovered on Saturday morning (July 15) in the Basingstoke Canal at Woodham Lock (between Woodham and West Byfleet) by a member of the public.

The body has not been formally identified - but police believe they know who he is.

His family has been told.

CCTV images have been released of people they want to speak to.

Detective Superintendent Jason Tingley said: "The people in these CCTV images were in the area of the lock or the canal path early on Saturday morning.

"I want to be clear that they are not under suspicion, but may have seen or heard something that could help our investigation. If you are one of these people, or you know who they are, please call us on 101 immediately.

"We are keen to speak with anyone who may have used the Basingstoke Canal towpath (Saturn trail) at Woodham Lock; or used the lock bridge to cross the canal between West Byfleet station and Woodlands Avenue, and Faris Lane, or the footpath to Fulbrook School; between midnight and 9am on Saturday 16 July.

"We also want to speak to anyone who heard or saw anything suspicious in the area at those times, or who may have any other information that could help us."

Officers continue to carry out enquiries to understand the circumstances that led to the body being in the lock.
