Guildford Hosts The First Pop Up Pug Cafe

2:16pm 21st May 2017

You may have heard the new trend in novelty Pop Up Cafes springing up around the country; we've seen cereal, cats and one that sells only crisps. However today saw the opening of the eagerly awaited Pop Up Pug Cafe and it's right on our door step here in Guildford.

So we went to take a look...

The cafe's founder, Anushka told Eagle Radio, that she started a Pug Meet Up in Stoke Park about 6 months ago as a way to socialise with other pug lovers and owners in the area. The idea for the cafe came from there.

Due to a the power of social media, what started as a local event with 100 attendees soon grew to a viral hit and the Facebook event had over 2,000! In the end, they booked in 290 people and 130 pugs across the day.

The Pop Up Pug Cafe was held at Esquire's Cafe in Guildford where the team had produced an organic dog friendly menu including, 'woofins' and 'pug cakes'.

Each pug that attended also got their own 'pugaccino' with their individual names on.

The cafe had been decked out with pug themed art from local creators as well as personalised poloroids of each pug that was attending the event.

When asked whether we may see another cafe opening in the future, Anushka is waiting to see the success of today's event but she'll definitely keep organising pug meet ups here in Surrey.
