Guildford nutritionist offers exam advice for students

exams revision

6:01am 3rd May 2016

With the start of exams for students across Surrey and Hampshire looming, a Guildford nutritionist is offering some useful advice.

Her top tips to stay focused through the difficult period are keeping hydrated and eating healthy snacks during revision sessions.

Nutritional Therapist Pippa Mitchell says empty calorie foods can lead to a 'crash'.

She advises we keep away from processed foods: "This is sugar in the form of soft drinks, chocolates, sweets, cakes, pastries, all of that kind of thing which we tend to grab when we're feeling a bit low, when we need a boost of energy.

"The problem with that kind of energy is it can give you quite an energy high but sure enough, very shortly you'll end up with a low."

Exams

We reported last week that exam stress accounts for a high percentage of counselling sessions for youngsters.

Pippa said: "Students now have a couple of months probably before they actually start taking their exams, so that's lots of time for them to start just making some very small but simple changes."

"These can really affect how they not only study and retain information but also to help keep them alert while they are actually doing their exams as well."
