Bariatric Surgery
More than 4 per cent of the adult population in Surrey are obese.
And statistics show more of us are opting to have things like gastric bands fitted to combat the problem.
Dr Samer Humadi works at Ahsford and St Peter's - the only hopsital in Surrey offering the procedures.
He explains more about the work he does:
Dr Humadi is keen to point out that there are risks involved in any form of bariatric surgery.
Although generally viewed as safe, it is important to realise that none of the methods mentioned below should be seen as quick fixes and it is also key that all of the risks are recognised:

Around 1 in 7 school children in Surrey are obese - according to NHS figures.
We've been speaking to a mother who decided to take positive action to protect her children's health.
Angela Fiveash from Woking brought her childrens' weight down by signing up to the childhood obesity programme Mend.

Alcohol
Liver disease among young middle-class drinkers is on the rise in Surrey.
It's claimed many of us could be drinking ourselves into bad health without realising it.
The Government advice is that women should drink no more than 3 units a day - with that rising to 4 units for men.

Crash Diets
We're being warned of the dangers of crash dieting.
Many of us are looking for a quick fix - but the British Dietetic Association says we must be aware of the risks.
In particular - it slams diets which encourage people to eat only baby food or maple syrup.
