The Flames had mixed fortunes over the weekend

Ben Campbell

(Updated 8:58pm 26th January 2016)

The Flames had mixed fortunes in their weekend matches with both a home win and away loss.

On Saturday, they picked up a 4-3 extra time win over the visiting Manchester Phoenix.

24 hours later, despite being 4-3 up with less than a minute from close, Arnoldas Bosas re-wrote the ending.

He connected a pair of last minute strikes, to read as a 5-4 Sheffield Steeldogs win.

Flames Head Coach, Paul Dixon said:

"Sometimes you can go away from a 3 of 4 point haul and feel pretty good about things, but the way this happened, it is hard not to think more about the lost point than the gained points"

"To get within about 50 seconds of a 2 goal win yet end up losing in overtime is agonisingly frustrating.  There is no excuse for players of our experience letting that one get away, but we are going to have to move on because we can't change it now."

" We have to try to remember it is 3 points out of 4, and we played a good game on Saturday to gain success against Manchester as part of that."

The Flames take on Basingstoke Bison at the Spectrum on Wednesday for the 2nd leg of the Cup semi-final.
