Guildford Lions fireworks bounces back with stunning turnaround

triple fireworks

6:00am 16th November 2016

A stunning turnaround has been achieved by this year's Guildford Lions fireworks.

The event predicts an incredible profit of £30,000, in the same year organisers launched a desperate financial appeal to keep the show on.

This is a massive success and by some way the largest profit for many years.

Guildford Lions say that favourable weather conditions along with an earlier start time saw crowd numbers, especially families with younger children, increase substantially for both the Torchlight Procession and the display itself at Stoke Park creating a truly memorable community event.

Half of the cash will be going to the Lions' nominated charity for the year, Headway Surrey who support locals with brain injuries.

The other £15,000 will be used to support the community through the Guildford Lions Club Welfare Fund.

Guildford Lions tell Eagle Radio: "The result achieved is absolutely fantastic and the Guildford public should feel justifiably proud of themselves – the money raised will make a real difference to many needy people in our community.

"An event of this type requires a tremendous amount of planning, organisation and cost and we are indebted to our various supporters, our club members and and the volunteers from local groups and businesses that turned out in numbers on the night to help us."

"Without their generosity and commitment, it would not be possible for Guildford Lions Club, as a self funding voluntary organisation, to be able to put on such a fabulous evening for everybody's enjoyment and we take great pleasure in recording our heartfelt thanks in particular to RADical Systems Ltd, Lloyds Bank plc, Guildford Borough Council, Chapters Financial Ltd, Ewbank Auctioneers, Eagle Radio, Big Yellow, Memset and the Surrey Advertiser who have all worked with us to make this brilliant result possible.
