Monday 30th April

30th April 2012

Are you looking for love this bright, sunny (for once!) Monday morning? Well, I may just have the answer for you. If you are living in a town you need to move!!! Yes sell up and move to the country...NOW! A survey has found 77 per cent of adults living in rural Britain have found their soulmate – compared with just 48 per cent in urban areas. Oh and if you still need a reason to move, the survey also claims that relationships last twice as long if you live in the country too ;)

We had a pretty poor 0 out of 10 this morning on the £1000 minute, with a few people complaining the questions are getting more difficult! Have a go with this mornings questions here and see how you get on. You can play for the £1000 tomorrow morning at 8.15am.

PG has lost another pound on his diet, and was still a bit moody after his team (QPR) got beat 6 - 1 by Chelsea yesterday mwaaahahahaha! Hopefully he be over it by tomorrow morning when he and I will be back from 6am for the Breakfast Show, until then...

Friday 27th April

27th April 2012

We got here! Happy Friday :) After a week of rain and grey skies we thoroughally enjoyed our Friday morning fling which included our world famous (little lie) movie competition, Certificate PG!

PG, Anthony the legend of Zahra (who purchased his wedding rings last weekend) myself,  and of course Adam the Morris dancer who this week taught us a new Morris dancing move, the 'swing, thrust, click'! One of the stlightly trickier moves I must confess...gathered together to perform a scene from a movie that Chris from Godalming correctly guessed was 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit'. He won himself CSI, The Complete Series 11 on DVD.

We also announced the winner of our Kebur Community Challenge competition. We had been asking for local school/charities and non profit making organisations to get in touch with us and let us know about their projects within the community. We wanted to know about people trying to transform run down areas or create an outdoor space that will benefit locals.

Of the many entries we received, Cove School was selected as the winner of £2,000 Gardening supplies and materials from Kebur Garden Materials, Farnborough. The geography teacher there had emailed us to tell us about 10 pupils aged 11- 14 who give up their Wednesday evenings to work extremely hard attempting to redevelop a small enclosed courtyard into a garden. Unfortunately, the vast majority of the area is covered with tatty concrete, garden tools are limited in number and quality and every improvement is being done on a tight budget of around 50p!

Well I have a feeling there will be a big improvement on that land in the not so distant future after the £2000! Well done to Cove School gardening and Eco club!#

Well have a lovely weekend. Stay dry, and don't forget the Voice UK starts its first live shows on Saturday night and there is another round of BGT too. Oooh and on Sunday, you will most likely find PG watching the (not mighty) QPR getting stuffed from Cheslea ;)

Catch you Monday from 6am, for another round of the Early Morning Shower  Mystery Voice and £1000 minute, until then...

Thursday 26th April

26th April 2012

Ladies, do you think that its the younger teenager and twenty somethings that know how to dress stylishly? Well good new this morning for us slightly older women in that a study has found it takes years of experimenting before women find a look they’re happy and confident with. Most feel they’re not at their prime until 35. One in three grew more comfortable with their appearance the older they got, while three out of four thought their style had improved over the years.

Here's the list of the top ten celebs seen to be in their prime...

  1. Helen Mirren
  2. Holly Willoughby
  3. Kate Middleton
  4. Amanda Holden
  5. Kate Winslet
  6. Nigella Lawson
  7. Kelly Brook
  8. Katherine Jenkins
  9. Judi Dench
  10. Joanna Lumley
This morning we also heard about the benefits of Beetroot! Especially for our athletes competing in this years Olympics. According to research, eating beetroot before a race can make you run faster! If you enjoy a jog every so often if could also help you with endurance. If you normally manage an hour, the study shows eating beetroot before you go out can help you run for an extra ten minutes! I know what's going on my shopping list tomorrow!
In other news Sarah from Woking managed a 4 out of 10 on this morning's £1000 minute. Play along with the quiz here and see if you could do any better. You can play for the cash tomorrow morning at 8.15am.

Also tomorrow, we will be playing another round of our Friday morning movie competition Certificate PG. If you know your films, catch the Breakfast Show 'am dram' team acting out a scene from a movie around 7.45am. If you can identify the film it's from you could be winning!

Have a super day, stay dry and join us from 6am tomorrow, until then...

Choccy cakes and colouring in

25th April 2012

So April was short (Easter-tastic) and wet - Like Kim Robson in a swimming pool.

Before Eagle Backstage news, I just have to share some proof that cats are devious, or at least can look that way - Gloria (my Cat) loves to make an entrance. I just love this picture...

Gloria

Bev went to a Wizard of Oz Hen do. The only problem with getting anything delivered to work is that it’s then open to colleague silliness.

Wes in Bev's Tin man outfit Bev as a Tin Man

It suited Bev considerably more...

Kim did something new by experimenting with baking.  This is her first chocolate cake ever:

 Kim

How much do you want to put your face in that?

PG has been working on his fitness. This is his attempt to strengthen his legs:

 PG sqauting

He makes it look easy doesn’t he?! He only stayed like that long enough for the picture...

Adam Morris got a new toy - a pink piano arrived and has made the office a more musical place.

While we were mucking around in the office Katy Butler from our CCE team was training hard and did us proud by completing the London Marathon.

 Katy b

We also had some visitors in the form of boyband Lawson who have their debut single "When she was mine" due out in May.  It promises to be a big hit!  So not only are they talented and good looking chaps, they are really cool and nice guys - sickening isn’t it?

lawson

And finally I reached my correct level at work when I was caught with my colouring pens. PG won’t let me put the finished masterpiece on the fridge, art hater...!

So that’s it for April, catch you in May,
when you could be winning a holiday.

Love from Wes

Now tell the truth...honestly, how often do you change your bed sheets? Well according to a survey, 1 in 6 of us leave it longer than a month!

Jackie Knight got in touch withus to say "at least once a week, and always said if i won lottery i would employ someone to give me clean bedding every day !"

Sue said "once a week usually a Saturday, maybe even more if cat has walked over bed with wet muddy paws" but Alice from Surbiton says she only changes them once every 4 weeks and Claire from Knaphill said If I don't have time to change them I just spray with Fabreeze!

Now this Mystery Voice, which by the way is not Miranda Hart!!!! Is really starting to bug everyone.

Do you have any idea who this is...

If you do, give us a call tomorrow at 7.15 and you could be winning our prize pack which includes a hair dying kit, a childs course of swimming lessons and £50 Halfords vouchers!

Stary dry today and join PG and I tomorrow for more fun and frolics from 6am, until then, stay dry

Happy St Georges Day! As we opened our Monday Morning Moan phone lines Rob in Guildford got in touch to say What a great way to celebrate St George's Day, with what the English do best - moaning!

Debbie from Fleet was rightfully venting this morning after she had taken part in a litter pick at Calthorpe Park in Fleet, only to revisit the area and see it full of rubbish again! Grrrrrrr....

On a brighter note PG was celebrating losing over 3 stone in weight in under 3 months! Check out this slim jim...

pg slim

He'll be a hunk in his trunks this summer....maybe...;)

We also gave away 3 pairs of tickets to see Newton Faulkner at G Live this Wednesday, well done to Kevin from Guildford, Jason from Cranleigh and Martin from Fleet!

Not such a good morning for Matt from Farnham only managing to score 1 out of 10 on this mornings £1000 minute. Play along here to see if you could have done any better, then have a go at playing for the cash tomorrow morning at 8.15am.

Have a super Monday, PG and I will be back tomorrow morning from 6am, until then...

Friday 20th April

20th April 2012

A busy busy morning, with a very important London Marathon roll of honour! Good luck to everyone running this Sunday, and don't forget there is still time to leave your messages of support for a special London Marathon local here

We had another round of our Friday morning movie competition Certificate PG! PG, Anthony the Legend of Zahra (who is going shopping for his wedding rings this weekend) Adam Morris dancer (who this morning taught us the 'up, out, squat, click' dance) and myself acted out out a scene from a movie that Taz from Farnham correctly guessed was ET! She won herself the Marvel Animation 8 film complete Collection :)

We were also asking you to get in touch if you are involved in a community project and are a school, charity or non profit making organisation. We have once again teamed up with Kebur Garden Materials to help transform a run down area into a beautiful paradise :) One lucky community project will win £2,000 of gardening and landscaping materials, if you would like that to be you, get in touch here

In showbiz news this morning, we caught up with Indie and Pixie and John James Newman from The Voice UK. They are both doing battle on tomorrow nights TV show. To hear their interviews in full check out our podcast directory

Thursday 19th April

19th April 2012

This morning we were asking, have you ever turned up to an event/party which you thought you were invited too but actually weren't! This is after a friend of mine and her husband went to a wedding a couple of weeks ago where they didn't know many people apart from the bride and groom. After the ceremony they travelled to the reception where they found the guests to be quite unfriendly and found themselves just having a drink on their own, so they went to have a look at the table plan to see who they would be sitting next to for dinner.... Ahhh.... they couldn't actually find their names on the table plan! She took out the invitations from her handbag and yep, you guessed it, they had only been invited to the evening! Yikes! They weren't quite sure what to do, then the best man came over, who had obviously realised what was going on and told them he would pull up a couple of chairs to a table and not to worry.  How embarassing!

Tim got in touch to tell us about the time he turned up to a party he hadn't realised he wasn't invited to, only to find his girlfriend there with another man!!! Blimey!

We had a decent score for Bart from Fleet this morning on the £1000 minute! He managed a 7 out of 10. The £1000 returns tomorrow for your chance to win cash.

We also had another 2 wrong answers on the Mystery Voice. It is not Miranda Hart or Anne Robinson.

Have a listen to this...

If you think you know who it is, give us a call tomorrow morning at 7.15am and you could be winning our prize pack which includes £50 Halfords vouchers and a childs course of swimming lessons.

We will be back tomorrow morning from 6am for our Friday morning fling which includes our London Marathon Roll of Honour, Certificate PG and Crew Ride To School, until then...

Wednesday 18th April

18th April 2012

Yuck yuck yuck. What a gloomy morning! But we did reveal some exciting Guilfest news, Tulisa, Cher Lloyd, Gary Numan and The Straits are all going to be playing, along with the headline acts already confirmed, Jools Holland, Olly Murs and Bryan Ferry.  For more information on this years Guilfest  take a look here

Another thing you can do on our website is play along with our £1000 minute competition. It was Michelle from Guildford who was on the lucky line this morning and managed to score 4 out of 10. See if you could do better by playing here and then why not go for the £1000 tomorrow morning at 8.15am.

Have you got a run down area near where you live? Is there some derelict land that could do with sprucing up? If you are a school, charity or non profit making organisation we are asking you to get in touch here and tell us about the area that you would like to transform and you could be selected to win £2000 worth of gardening and landscaping materials from the range at Kebur Garden Materials, Farnborough.

So with Anthony the Legend of Zahra back on the news desk this morning after his stag weekend in Latvia we heard about some (only some) of the costumes he was made to wear. One being a head to toe pink Lycra catsuit! I think we are best of not knowing anymore!!!

Ant, PG and I, will all be back tomorrow from 6am without a pink catsuit in sight thank goodness, until then...

Tuesday 17th April

17th April 2012

So this morning, we were asking you for the best piece of advice you've ever received?

Dawn got in touch to say "If at first you don't succeed........pack it in and have some chocolate" :)

Sandra says " A smile is better than a frown!"

Felicity made us smile with a text to say "never eat yellow snow"

and Claire in Aldershot made us smile with this one, "don't sweat the petty things and don't pet the sweaty things" ;)

We also had another round of the £1000 minute at 8.15am. It was Emma from Linford who scored 4 out of 10. You can play along here and see how you would have done. The £1000 minute returns tomorrow morning with another chance for you to win cash!

We are also asking you to let us know what you think of the music we play and the kinds of prizes you'd like to win. Get involved in our Sound Check and you'll be helping us to create the perfect radio station for you!

PG (who can now almost fit between the 2 studio doors he has lost so much weight) and myself (still recovering from being dressed as a tinman for the weekend) will be back tomorrow morning from 6am, stay dry and until then...

Monday 16th April

16th April 2012

The not so big man returned to the Breakfast Show this morning (nearly 3 stone lighter) and kicked off the week with a Monday morning moan... no suprise there then!

PG was miffed becuase as he drove back to Surrey from the West Country yesterday, he was held up by 2 miles of cones on the motorway and nobody there working on the road, apart from two chaps enjoying a cuppa from their flasks while relaxing on a deck chair!

We had a couple of wrong answers on the Mystery Voice this morning. It is not Joanna Lumley or Dawn French. Have a listen to this

Do you think you know who it is? You can play tomorrow and could be winning this prize pack.

We had a 5 out of 10 on this mornings £1000 minute. You can always play along here to see how you would have done, and then try tomorrow morning at 8.15am and you could be winning £1000!

Now this morning, we also revealed which sex are the most moral, and it came as no great suprise it is women, especially those over 30. A survey of over 60 000 people revealed women prefer to make their decisions based on how it impacts others – which tends to produce better decisions –  while men have a more individual approach and are more self-interested! You can actually take the MoralDNA test visit here and see how you would have got on.

PG and I will be back tomorrow from 6am, enjoy your Monday, until then...

Friday 13th April

13th April 2012

Friday the 13th, der der derrrrrr! I am saluting magpies and Adam is avoiding hot tubs. We had a couple of window cleaners get in touch to say they'll be staying at the bottom of the ladders today! Ann Kerridge text us to say, 'strange as this sounds I am avoiding cupboard doors because every Friday 13th without fail every time I go and open a cupboard door like I do on any other day they come off the hinges and I'm stood there with a cupboard door in my hand!!'

As it is a Friday, our movie competition Certificate PG returned with more movie goodies to be won.

Adam Morris Dancer, Posh Eli and myself acted out a scene from a movie which Anna from Normandy correctly guessed was Monsters Vs Aliens.

We soooo nearly had a winner on the £1000 minute too! Cathy from Ash Vale scored 9 out of 10! Play along here and see how you would have got on and then why not play for the cash on Monday morning at 8.15am.

I am off on a hen weekend in Nottongham today where I will mostly be dressing up as Robin Hood and  the Tinman from the Wizard of Oz! PG will be back for the breakfast show on Monday, whatever you are up to have a great weekend, catch you Monday at 6am, until then...

Thursday 12th April

12th April 2012

Still no winner on the Early Morning Shower which means it's a double rollover, with 3 pairs of movie tickets to be won if you can identify the song that Adam and I are singing in the shower at 6.15am tomorrow morning!

Now have you ever called or text someone accidentally, when you actually meant to call someone else? Yesterday, Adam used his voice control on his mobile to call his Dad. He clearly said, "call Dad mobile". Unfortunately, his phone managed to call a completely different person. Infact it called the only celebrity (ish) that he had in his phonebook... Nik Kershaw!!! Adam couldn't work out how to stop the call and ended up having to apologise to Nik for calling the wrong number and quickly hung up!

Julie got in touch to tell us Adam was not alone in telephone blunders! She text her Dad saying 'wait till I get you home tonight!' Obviously it was for her boyfriend! Ooooops!

Adele has topped the Sunday Times Rich List of young British musicians following the success of her second album, 21. She is now worth an estimated £20 million with Cheryl Cole in second place with a £12 million fortune. Golly, how I wish I'd kept up those piano lessons!

Wendy from Alton scored a 6 out of 10 on this mornings £1000 minute. You can play along here to see how you would have got on, then play for the cash tomorrow morning at 8.15am.

Have a happy Thursday! Catch you tomorrow from 6am, until then...

Wednesday 11th April

11th April 2012

Well poor Adam (standing in for PG) seems to be recovering from his hot tub incident at the weekend. With a few extra plasters on his face he looks like he could have been a contestant on Mallets Mallet!

This morning, we started off with no correct answers on the Early Morning Shower, which means tomorrow morning is a rollover! 2 pairs of movie tickets could be yours if you can identify the song that Adam and I are singing in the shower, thats at 6.15am.

I was kept busy early on too with 200 hot cross buns to butter!

photo

Our Love Crew took them down to Guildford train station to fill up commuters tummies on this chilly Wednesday morning :)

Now, I am staying with my brother at the moment, and yesterday afternoon, as I arrived home from work, I was greeted by his next door neighbour 'trying' to play saxaphone..for hours! I was subjected to 'Dallas', over and over again, followed by 'Baker Street'! I can hardly wait to get home today. Not! Fortunately for me, Adam, being a classically trained musician and all that, this morning played a quite beautiful version of  Baker Street, on this...

piano

musical genius is Adam Morris and also a great Morris dancer. Hear more of that on Friday morning's Certificate PG!

After spending an hour in the doctors waiting room yesterday, Adam also discovered his love for girls magazines! yep, he spent his time waiting reading Cosmo, Glamour and Grazia and is off today to buy a new lip gloss ;)

Katie from Frimley scored a 7 out of 10 on this mornings £1000 minute. You can play along here to see how you would have got on, then why not trying playing to win £1000 tomorrow morning at 8.15am.

Enjoy your Wednesday. Ads and I will be back from 6am tomorrow, until then...

10th April 2012

So with PG still off on his Easter break Adam Morris was standing in this morning...just! The poor chap had a little fall, from a hot tub, on to a patio, face first!

adam

So plenty of tlc required this morning (and maybe the odd giggle). We asked you to tell us about some of your unfortunate clumsy accidents. Marion got in touch to say she broke her finger bouncing on a space hopper!

So, after James from Cranleigh correctly identified the Mystery Voice last Thursday as Michael Fish. We started a brand new one this morning! Have a listen to this

Do you have any idea who it is? If so, give us a call tomorrow morning at 7.15am.

In other news, hairdressers will be banned from wearing high heels and jewellery under nanny state proposals being drawn up in Brussels. Believe it or not, a health and safety directive also bans stylists cutting hair and bans wedding rings and watches as it's unhygienic! Whatever next!

Adam and I will be back tomorrow from 6am as he hopefully starts to scab over ;) Have a lovely Tuesday, it's only a short week, wooo hoooo! Keep munching your eggs, until tomorrow...

Thursday 5th April

5th April 2012

So it is goodbye to this four day week and hello to the FOUR day weekend!

On the show today we talked about out-of-sync dubbing and subtitles on foreign tv shows, we learnt what some researchers think that your food shopping says about you and we discussed the Edinburgh pandas’ so-far failed attempts to conceive.

We are starting to suspect that the bears are just biding their time and making the most all this special treatment and being in the limelight. Personally, I don’t think we should keep “pandering” to their needs. (Get it?!)

We also asked you if your family have a particular song that you all sing when going on a car journey together, resulting in a beautiful rendition of “Easter Holiday”- think “Summer Holiday but “Easter-fied”- from the talent that is Adam “Mozart” Morris.

Amanda won our Early Morning Shower competition at 6.15 and is off to the movies on us...

Congratulations to James Freemantle from Cranleigh who correctly guessed Michael Fish as our Mystery Voiceand has won a prize pack worth over £800!

And well done to Sean Sparks from Guildford who scored 10 out of 10 on the £1000 minute bagging himself £1000!

PG is off on holiday next week but don’t forget to tune in to the Breakfast Show this coming Tuesday with Breakfast Bev and Adam “Mozart” Morris.

We hope that you have a super Easter bank holiday and we’ll see you next week!

Disaster struck the Breakfast Show Team this morning when we arrived at Eagle Towers to find that there were no tea bags!

Today we learnt that the UK are considered the 18th happiest nation in the world! We weren’t sure whether to be pleased or disappointed about fact.

But for those of you looking to feel happier, PG has found the answer! A study has shown that a good sleep can help you improve your recall of happy memories!

And if you want to watch something funny on tv tonight, don’t forget that the digital switchover in Surrey has begun!

For more information on the digital switchover and how you can re-tune your tv, log on to 964eagle.co.uk and you will find all the information you need.

Graham won our Early Morning Shower competition at 6.15 and is off to the movies on us......Tim Minchin and Eddie Izzard were the wrong answers on the Mystery Voice (see all the wrong answers so far here)....and Emma from Sandhurst scored 7out of 10 on the One thousand pound minute.

Finally, our Easter Egg Appeal has now closed so we’d like to say a big thank-you to everyone that donated an Easter Egg!

3rd April 2012

Day 2 of The Peter Gordon Breakfast Show simultaneously broadcasting live on 96.4 Eagle and on our new sister station “Eagle Extra” on 1566mw that launched yesterday!!

It is still all new and shiny so make sure you head over to eagleextra.co.uk to check it out!

Today we asked you which lead character you’d most like to play in a movie. We had suggestions such as Sandy Olsson from Grease, Han Solo from Star Wars and PG confessed to having a very strong yearning to play the role of Indiana Jones!

Can you imagine?!

Also, we found about a chocolate factory that you can stay in over night, why the price of ice cream might soon be on the increase and we learnt about a fridge magnet that you can use to order a pizza!

I must say, I am feeling rather hungry after writing all of that!

Laurie won our Early Morning Shower competition at 6.15 and is off to the movies on us......Michael Kitchen and John Lydon were the wrong answers on the Mystery Voice (see all the wrong answers so far here)....and Chris from Wokingham scored 9 out of 10 on the One thousand pound minute.

Finally, we are no longer collecting at libraries but if you want to donate a chocolate egg or two to our Easter Egg Appeal, you can do so by bringing it to Eagle Towers between the hours of 9-5, but hurry, the closing date is tomorrow!

See you tomorrow!

Monday 2nd April

2nd April 2012

A special day on The Peter Gordon Breakfast Show today.....because after more than 16 years, the show got a new frequency on top of the fave 96.4 FM. The show is also broadcast on our new sister station “Eagle Extra” on 1566mw. So we’re now that little bit extra important!!!

We had a few moans on our Monday moaning line – including use of the word “upcoming”....is it a word? Does anyone really care??

Also we found out that there’s a majority of us now wearing jeans to work – so drop the suit and tie and get with it!

Craig won our Early Morning Shower competition at 6.15 and is off to the movies on us......Alexander Armstrong and Robert Bathurst were the wrong answers on the Mystery Voice (see all the wrong answers so fare here)....and Garry from Godalming for 7 out of 10 on the One thousand pound minute.

Finally, we are still collecting for our Easter Egg Appeal...so if you can spare an extra egg or two, please join in if you can.

See you tomorrow!
